Pilod are an alernative indie band from Leuven, Belgium and have been around since late 2012, formed from the ashes of "The Boy Outside."
Pilod are made up of Frédéric Baervoets (vocals/guitar), Christophe Vandewoude (bass/backing vocals) and Valerie Stoens (drums). They spent their first months writing and gigging, their sound was refined by sound engineer and friend, Steven Crabbé and the band's signature style was created. They released their debut album, the very excellent “Sunny Forecast” (2013), described by the band as "full of creaking and squealing guitar sounds with a melancholic touch."
Valerie decided to leave the band in the summer of 2014 but Pilod decided to continue and searched for a replacement, calling on old acquaintance, Geert Luyts. Geert gave his first concert in an obscure club in Barcelona. The chemistry was intense and gave the music a firmer sound.
On 22 October 2016 Pilod released its second album, "Black Swan." Wringing guitars and hidden melodies, which go back to their early roots in the 1990s , are still the basics features of the music, but have evolved into a different sound thanks to the new line-up. Whether it is sombre urgency , threatening explosiveness or a hypnotic procession pace, the songs take their time to develop and receive a direct and intense impact when played live.
With a sound that is reminiscent of Snow Patrol and a hint of The Fray, but with a moodier, edgier sound, Pilod are definitely one for your playlist. We'd particularly urge you to check out their immense cover version of Bobby Hebb's "Sunny", and look out for the rumoured third album planned for 2019.
