Sheffield, Uk. Home of Arctic Monkeys, Human League, Def Leppard and Pulp. It's been a rock and pop powerhouse for decades. It's also the sixth most populated city in the UK with more residents than Liverpool, Bristol or Leeds.
It's also home to Social Media Marketing, PR and Spotify Playlisting specialists, Fans For Bands. Today, we'll be paying homage to three of the freshest new tunes represented by Fans For Bands right now.
1. Cavalcade "Ultraviolet"
CAVALCADE are an East London four-piece currently creating waves with their version of blistering Indie Rock and Roll. Newly signed to indie label These Bloody Thieves Records and already packing venues inside the capital with their electric live shows, they have proved that the Cavalcade journey is one to watch. Hailing from East London Cavalcade are made up of Connor Duggan (Lead Vocals/Guitar) Jack Campbell (Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals) Tom Nunn (Bass) and Steve Norris (Drums).
Describing their fourth Single, lead vocalist Connor Duggan explains; “Ultraviolet questions what makes us so different. Increasingly we find ourselves in a world of opposition and polarising views – the Infrared and Ultraviolet represent two extremities of the visible spectrum and the song is a call for us to unite underneath the lights. At it's core the song is an in your face interpretation of a journey of the mind and fraught personal relationships - At the end of that spiral are two forces that dance with one another forever”.
Opening with an ominous guitar riff that promises something pretty special, you're not disappointed when the rest of the band burst into life and Duggan's vocals make an appearance, rocking between refined and aggressive throughout the song. This is a special song, one that really highlights not only the songwriting and musicianship but the production value, which is incredible!
2. Scuttlers "Leaders Of A Lost Generation"
Manchester Rock and Roll quartet Scuttlers released their brand new single Leaders of a Lost Generation on 28th February.
The track marks a different direction for the band, even though it was penned by lead singer and guitarist Kaiden Nolan when he was just 14 years old. Kaiden (20) said: “It's a different direction for us musically. Leaders' was written as an ode to my age group when I was in my mid teens, lost in the crossings of pop culture, school and click-bait politics. When we took it to the studio as a full band, it moulded into the fist pumping anthem it is. It's a bold move for us, people describe us as indie-punk, but this has got fucking french horns in it”.
This one opens with strummed guitar chords and commanding vocals that really remind us of The Garage Flowers' Joseph Capaldi. This is a rich canvas of musical elements, you'll hear shitloads of awesome guitar riffs, soaring bass lines and rousing choruses. And yes, stick around and those French Horns will make their presence felt too.
Scuttlers do have that Manchester swagger about them. It's a difficult trait to master. Get it wrong and you sound like an Oasis wannabe. But get it right, you sound like Scuttlers.
3. Alex Ohm "Going Nowhere Fast"
Alex Ohm is back and 2020 looks set to be a very promising year for the Midlands artist. March sees him and his band kick off a headline tour in his hometown at Wolverhampton's
Newhampton Arts Centre. The show is a BBC Introducing West Midlands 'Presents' night in association with Birmingham Promoters to promote his upcoming release "Going Nowhere Fast."
Asked about the upcoming dates, Ohm enthuses, "I have been sitting on some of our best work to date which the band and I can't wait to share with the world."
"Going Nowhere Fast" is a great example of how to build a song. As with Scuttlers track above, it builds with more and more elements, all while being driven by a steady bass and drum track, culminating in a massive chorus.
This is a real top-drawer feel-good song, its steady build doesn't disappoint when it reaches its massive climax.
